How to fix Mouse Sensitivity Changes Randomly on Windows 10?
You don’t need to try all the solutions mentioned here. All of these solutions worked for different machines. Since it is impossible to determine what could work with your system, you have to try one solution after the other until you find the one that works for you. All of these solutions are very basic, and you should be able to follow them easily.
Common solutions:
As with most hardware-related problems, some common problems can be fixed easily by properly connecting that peripheral to your computer. You have to make sure that the connection is secure.
First, remove the mouse from your computer and plug it in again. It would be best if you tried plugging your mouse into a different USB port. If it works perfectly in the other port, then your USB is at fault. However, if things remain the same, remove that mouse from your computer and connect it to another computer. It could be your friend’s computer. If it works fluently there, then you can be sure that the problem is with your system. But if the same sensitivity issue shows up even in the other computer, you can consider the mouse as faulty. In that case, you need to get it replaced by another mouse as none of the solutions mentioned below will work if the mouse’s hardware is at fault.
If you have identified that the problem only occurs with your computer, then move on ahead with the solutions mentioned below.
Check mouse settings:
You can try getting into your mouse settings. Here, you can find every possible setting that will let you customize every aspect of your mouse according to your liking.
Press Windows Key + I to open up Windows Settings.
Click on Devices.
Inside the Devices window, click on the Mouse tab in the left pane.
In the right pane, you will now see several settings related to your mouse. You can set the scrolling according to your liking here. You can also change the cursor speed. If you need to access the additional mouse settings, you can click on the “Additional Mouse Settings” option. It will bring up a new window with more mouse customization options.
Work on these settings in the best way to ensure that the mouse sensitivity stays true to what it is set.
If working around the Mouse settings does not solve your problem of random mouse sensitivity changes, try the next solution mentioned below.

Update Mouse Drivers:
For every hardware component on a Windows system, you need to keep the drivers up to date. If your Mouse drivers are not up to date, you will often encounter problems with it.
There are three ways to update the drivers for a particular component in Windows. You can do it manually, automatically, or by using a third-party application. To update your mouse drivers automatically,
Press Windows Key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
Enter “devmgmt.msc” in the dialog box and click on Ok.
The device manager window will open up. Here, double-click on Mice and other printing devices. You will see your connected mouse here.
Right-click on that and choose “Update Driver.”
Follow the on-screen instruction to update the drivers to the latest version automatically. Windows will check for the latest drivers for that mouse and update them if they are outdated.
To update the mouse drivers manually, you need to visit your mouse manufacturer’s website. There you will find the setup for the latest drivers for your particular model. Download that setup file and run it to install the latest mouse drivers on your computer.
You can also update the mouse drivers using a third-party application. There are several utility programs that can scan your computer for drivers. If it detects any missing or outdated drivers, it will perform the update on its own. These programs charge a bit for their service, but the price paid is worth it since you don’t need to worry about drivers ever again.
Run SFC Scan:
SFC or System File Check is a Windows built-in tool that can be used to detect any system file-related problems. If it finds an issue that it can fix, then the utility tool will perform the fix on its own. Even with your mouse sensitivity issue, it might be able to help.
sfc/scannow
- Let the process complete, and then start your computer.
Run DISM Scan:
If the SFC scan did not do you any good, then try the DISM scan. It is another utility tool that can fix several problems.
- Press Windows Key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
- Enter “cmd” in the dialog box and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
- Click on Yes when the UAC window shows up on your screen.
- The command prompt window will open up. Here, enter the following commands one after the other and press the Enter key each time.
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
DISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
- Let the process complete. In some systems, this might take a while. If it gets stuck at a particular percentage, then don’t panic or restart your computer. Just wait a bit more, and it will do its job.
Modify System Config:
You can make a few changes to the system configuration window that could solve your mouse-related problem.
- Press Windows Key + R to open up the Run dialog box.
- Enter “msconfig.exe” in the dialog box and click on Ok.
- The system configuration window will open up. Here, in the General tab, check the boxes next to “Load system services” and “Load startup items,” and then click on Apply and Ok.
If even this does not solve your problem of random mouse sensitivity changes, go for the final solution mentioned below.
Use Third-Party Mouse Application:
Some peripheral companies have a dedicated application to customize their products when they are connected to the computer. If the mouse you are using also has such an application, install it on your computer right away. You can find the download link for this program on the manufacturer’s website. Then launch this program and tweak the settings in it according to your liking. Customize your mouse even further using this application and set it up in a way that would control the cursor sensitivity.
