The first Wonder Woman 1984 trailer is confirmed to release during the film’s panel at this weekend’s 2019 Comic Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil. Although Gal Gadot made her debut as Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, she didn’t receive a solo outing until 2017’s Wonder Woman. Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film was a major success for the unofficially titled DC Extended Universe, earning rave reviews and becoming a box office hit. As such, it came as little surprise when Wonder Woman 2 was officially confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that year.
Originally slated to hit theaters in November 2019, Wonder Woman 2 was delayed until June 2020. As a result, fans have only been treated to some teases, but they’ve been few and far between. Jenkins released Wonder Woman 1984 images of Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Ann Minerva aka Cheetah, Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord and, of course, Gadot’s return as Diana. Over the summer, Jenkins released the first Wonder Woman 1984 poster, but fans haven’t been able to see any footage from the movie. Thankfully, that’s about to change.
According to Fandom, which posted photos of a Wonder Woman 1984 mailer for its appearance at CCXP this weekend, the first trailer will arrive on Sunday. As seen in the photos, the mailer included a message signed by Gadot that reads: “I wish I could be in the UK to share the brand new trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 with you in person…but please join Patty Jenkins and me in São Paulo, Brazil via @WonderWomanFilm on Twitter this Sunday to watch it live!” This serves as confirmation the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer will debut during the CCXP panel on Sunday, and will presumably be made available online soon after.
So while Wonder Woman sequel footage has screened at various events prior to now, fans worldwide will finally get their first glimpse at the live-action film this weekend. In addition to the trailer, Wonder Woman 1984 is sure to have a fun panel full of Jenkins and Gadot offering further teases of what viewers can expect. The biggest mystery surrounding Wonder Woman 1984 is how Pine can return, considering his character Steve Trevor sacrificed himself at the end of Wonder Woman. Hopefully either the trailer or the CCXP panel will reveal new insight into how Pine can be back, since Jenkins, Gadot and the actor himself have all remained mum on what Steve Trevor’s return means.
Even if the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer doesn’t give fans all the answers they want, it’s sure to get viewers hyped for the film’s upcoming release. Its June 2020 release date means the movie will hit theaters almost exactly three years after Wonder Woman released, which is longer than fans were expecting to wait. While that allows enough time in between movies so fans don’t get burned out on the character, it also might mean expectations are even higher. Fans are no doubt hoping Wonder Woman 1984 lives up to the hype, and at least they’ll get the chance to see some footage from the DC movie this weekend.
