An exclusive clip from season 5 of Fear the Walking Dead finds Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sarah (Mo Collins) sharing a couple of brews during a rare quiet moment. Season 5 of The Walking Dead spinoff has put an emphasis on its characters’ interpersonal relationships, resulting in some surprising character combinations. But perhaps none have been as surprising as Dwight’s inclusion into the group of survivors that has changed so dramatically since the series began.
Dwight’s status in the franchise is already well established, and his making a go of it with Morgan (Lennie James), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Care), Victor (Colman Domingo), John (Garret Dillahunt), June (Jenna Elfman), Althea (Maggie Grace), and newcomer Charlie (Alexa Nisenson), is new territory for the character and the series itself. But as Morgan’s group continues to struggle to help those in need wherever and whenever they can, Dwight becomes a welcome addition to the crew’s ever-fluctuating ranks, especially when things heat up with local baddie, Logan (Matt Frewer).

That much is made clear in an exclusive clip from season 5, episode 12,’Ner Tamid.’ Not only does the clip continue to illustrate the show’s love of tossing back a few quality brews amidst the mayhem of the zombie apocalypse, but it also underlines how important it can be for the survivors to take a moment and reflect on where it is they came from, and how much better it is to have found the group they have. Take peek at the clip from Fear the Walking Dead, ’Ner Tamid’ below:
Sarah and Dwight’s chat may get interrupted by the ever-present threat of violence from the world’s other surviving humans, but before Logan and his crew bust up a bit of day drinking, Dwight and Sarah come about as close as possible to summing up the appeal of The Walking Dead through their wistful and not-so wistful reminiscence of the recent past. They also, perhaps inadvertently, touch on one of the recurring elements of the series: the search for a permanent place to live, by sharing what sounds like a mutual disdain for a life on the road. Sadly, with guys like Logan around, it seems this group of survivors’ hopes for a permanent settlement will have to wait for another day.
“In search of a permanent home for the convoy, Charlie is drawn to a synagogue where she encounters a Rabbi surviving on his own. Elsewhere, Sarah and Dwight face unexpected foes.”
