New Fear the Walking Dead season 5 images provide a first look at the return of Dwight (Austin Amelio). Amelio’s Dwight is set to be the second character to crossover from The Walking Dead. The first was Morgan (Lennie James), who left The Walking Dead at the end of season 8 and joined Fear the Walking Dead in the season 4 premiere.

The main cast of Fear the Walking Dead went through a major shakeup in season 4 with the deaths of Madison (Kim Dickens) and Nick (Frank Dillane), along with the addition of several new characters. The fourth season pitted them against Martha, a ruthless killer bent on murdering people who help others. Despite everything they went through in their conflicts with the Vultures and Martha, the season ended on a positive note with the group finding a new base and setting up a system designed to help other survivors.

TV Guide has released photos from the upcoming season, which feature an axe-wielding Dwight, Strand (Colman Domingo), Charlie (Alexa Nisenson), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Morgan, John (Garret Dillahunt), and June (Jenna Elfman). The photos don’t reveal anything about the story for season 5, but do provide a clue to when Dwight will appear. According to TV Guide, the photo of Dwight is from the third episode, which means fans won’t have long to wait for the former Savior to arrive. However, it’s possible that Dwight will arrive even sooner than the third episode.

When Dwight was last seen, he was warned by Daryl that he would be killed if he ever returned to Alexandria, and so he went to look for his wife, Sherry. In the season 8 finale, he received a message from her. Dwight’s presence on Fear the Walking Dead is a clear indication that Dwight heeded Daryl’s warning and moved on. It remains to be seen if Dwight’s search for Sherry will have anything to do with his upcoming encounter with Morgan’s group. Sherry may have died off-screen, leaving Dwight to begin a new journey. Alternatively, Dwight may still be looking for her when he appears on Fear the Walking Dead.

The role he will play in season 5 is uncertain. His history with the Saviors could put him at odds with Morgan. In season 8 of The Walking Dead, Morgan developed such a strong hatred for the Saviors that he was driven to temporarily abandon his no-killing rule. On the other hand, Morgan’s pursuit of redemption could cause him to be more understanding and accepting of Dwight.
