The first season of Netflix and Dreamwork’s animated Fast & Furious: Spy Racers series introduces a new batch of characters to the franchise. After the multi-billion dollar success of the live-action movies, Spy Racers represents the first time the Fast & Furious franchise is moving to the small screen. The show features a strong core cast of characters, voiced by some talented voice actors.
The series — created by Tim Hedrick (Dreamworks Voltron Legendary Defender) and Bret Haaland (All Hail King Julien) and produced by franchise producers Vin Diesel, Neil Moritz, and Chris Morgan — is based around a new group of street racers from Los Angeles. They are recruited to infiltrate an elite racing group and crime organization known as SH1FT3R, who are pulling off heists around the globe in order to obtain a mysterious piece of technology that will enable their quest of world domination.
In traditional Fast & Furious style, this involves some races through the Los Angeles streets, covert missions in exotic locations, and plenty of talk about family. The majority of these events focus on the main team, their handler from a secret government agency, the leader of SH1FT3R, and other street racers. But, there are also some familiar people from the Fast & Furious franchise who pop up.
Tony Toretto & Friends
Tyler Posey as Tony Toretto: The younger cousin of Dominic Toretto, Tony is a skilled racer and natural leader much like his well-known family member. His skills behind the wheel are put to the test repeatedly as the primary driver of his group. Tony is voiced by Tyler Posey, who best known for his role as Scott McCall in Teen Wolf. He’s previously done voice work the YouTube Original series Sherwood and multiple Marvel projects as Inferno.
Luke Youngblood as Frostee Benson: Frostee is the tech genius of the group, even at only 13 years of age. He’s full of energy and frequently finds himself in trouble, but thankfully the gadgets he has give him a way out more times than not. Frostee is voiced by Luke Youngblood, who gained exposure by playing Lee Jordan in the first two Harry Potter movies. He’s also had recurring roles on Community and Galavant, but this is his first voice role.
Charlet Chung as Echo: The green-haired Echo is a master artist who loves making sure their rides look great. Once she and her friends are wrapped up in this spy mission, she quickly shows that she’s a natural for this line of work. Echo is voiced by Charlet Chung, who has years of experience as a voice actor in TV shows and video games. She’s best known as the voice of D.Va in Overwatch but recently provided the voice of Julia Argent on Netflix’s animated Carmen Sandiego series.
Jorge Diaz as Cisco Renaldo: Cisco is the muscle of the Spy Racers crew, as well as their mechanic — even if he uses unorthodox methods at times. Despite his gigantic build, he’s a sweetheart and is always looking for something to eat. Cisco is voiced by Jorge Diaz, who played JD Guzman in Jane the Virgin and provided the voice for Melvin in The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants.
Enemies and Allies
Manish Dayal as Shashi Dhar: The target of the Spy Racers’ undercover mission, Shashi is the leader of SH1FT3R who has plans for world domination. He is in the process of acquiring five different “keys” that will make this goal easier, and it is up to the Spy Racers to stop him. Shashi is voiced by Manish Dayal, who played Devon Pravesh on The Resident and had a brief stint on Agents of SHIELD as Vijay Nadeer.
Camille Ramsey as Layla Gray: A notable racer in the underground world, Layla Gray meets the Spy Racers during their attempt to infiltrate SH1FT3R. Although she is part of the organization and works closely with Shashi, Layla is more of a lone wolf. Camille Ramsey provides the southern twang to Layla’s voice and is best known for her role as Mackenzie Wagner in American Vandal.
Renée Elise Goldsberry as Ms. Nowhere: A high-ranking member of a secret government agency, Ms. Nowhere is the liaison assigned to Tony’s team. It’s her job to make sure they get the job done and stay safe. Renée Elisa Goldsberry is the Tony-winning performer who originally played Angelica Schuyler in the Hamilton musical.
Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto: The star of the Fast & Furious franchise, Dom has a small role to play in season one of Spy Racers, as he recommends Tony and his friends for their mission. After years of voicing Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Diesel gets to say much more than just “I am Groot” in this series.
Jimmy Tatro as Mitch: A rival street racer in Los Angeles, Mitch is often a thorn in the side of Tony and his friends. But, the knucklehead proves useful to them as they try to learn about SH1FT3R. Mitch is voiced by Jimmy Tatro, who is best known as Rooster in 22 Jump Street and Dylan Maxwell in American Vandal.
