Update: Watch the Fast & Furious 9 trailer here!

Here’s when the first official Fast & Furious 9 trailer is expected to be released online. Over the last few years, the Fast & Furious franchise has expanded far beyond its street racing roots. Featuring insane stunts and a large ensemble, these films have become some of the biggest box office hits of all-time. After branching out with their first spinoff, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and a Netflix animated series, Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, the Fast Saga will shift focus back towards Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family this year.

Officially titled F9, the upcoming sequel is directed by Justin Lin, who directed each installment from Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift to Fast & Furious 6. The movie is one of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2020, leaving many anxious to see what F9 has in store. We know franchise veterans like Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty, Tyrese Gibson’s Roman Pierce, and many more will return. At the same time, John Cena and Michael Rooker are among the newest members of the saga. But, fans have barely seen anything from the film, as the marketing campaign is just now beginning.

In anticipation of the release of the first trailer, Universal officially released a trailer teaser to tide fans over until tomorrow. It was previously confirmed that F9’s trailer would debut on January 31st as part of a special The Road To F9 Concert & Trailer Drop event that will feature musical performances by Cardi B, Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Puth, and Ozana. Thankfully, the trailer won’t just be shown to those who attend the event, as it will also be released online. The event started at 12 pm PST, but it isn’t known how long it will run for, or if the trailer drop will come near the beginning or end. In the meantime, fans can watch the livestream HERE, as the trailer is still incoming.

The launch of the first trailer for F9 is coming later than many expected, as the franchise has previously launched first trailers in December. Instead, Universal is using the same pre-Super Bowl window to begin marketing F9 as they did with Hobbs & Shaw. The most significant difference here, though, is this leaves the studio with just four months to market F9, while Hobbs & Shaw had more time to generate buzz with an August release date. Luckily for Universal, it shouldn’t take much to drum up excitement for what the Fast Saga does next.

To this point, they’ve done an excellent job of keeping the plot of F9 under wraps, too. The F9 trailer teaser did provide some insight into the story showing Dom and Letty far removed from the city and spending time raising Dom’s son Brian. It may have even teased that one of them could die. Once again, the theme of family should be prominently displayed throughout Friday’s trailer. And, this is the Fast Saga after all, so fans should expect to see glimpses of the larger than life action F9 is sure to feature.
