Ahead of the first trailer’s release, the first poster for the ninth Fast & Furious movie confirms the film’s title will be F9. The Fast & Furious franchise started off small, but over the years has become one of the biggest film franchises in the world. Collectively, the films have grossed over $5.9 billion worldwide, even producing a spin-off in last summer’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw. Anticipation is high for the ninth film in the main franchise, though so far details have been scarce.
Initially, many were surprised at how a trailer for the May release hadn’t arrived yet, but last month, it was announced that the first official trailer for F9 would debut during a live concert promoting the film. This concert will take place on Friday, January 31. To further hype the trailer’s premiere, Universal has released a short teaser trailer showing Vin Diesel as Dom Toretto and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, this time living the quiet life while also hinting that something big is on the horizon.
Universal also released the first teaser poster for the film, cementing its name as F9. The poster shows Dom sitting on the hood of a car with his back to the camera. Prominently shown on the poster is Dom’s famous cross necklace, which was glimpsed in the teaser when Letty gave it to her and Dom’s son Brian, the name being a nod to the late Paul Walker’s character. Check out the poster below:
While plot details are still unknown, the cast list alone has led to a great deal of speculation and excitement. In addition to Diesel and Rodriguez, F9 will see the returns of Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Charlize Theron, and Helen Mirren. Newcomers to the franchise include John Cena, Michael Rooker, and Cardi B. After this installment, there will be one more film in the original Fast & Furious series, which is currently slated for release on April 2, 2021.
The Fast & Furious franchise is almost as well-known for its amusing names as it is for insane car stunts. This is the franchise that notably had its second film be named 2 Fast 2 Furious, and named the eighth film The Fate of the Furious. Regardless of how people feel about the names, however, they cannot deny that the Fast & Furious movies are massive hits that have brought back audiences again and again. Fans are surely excited to see how Dom and his family’s story will wrap up, and the upcoming trailer will definitely shed some light on that. Until then, appreciate the brilliance that is titling a film F9.
