The Fast & Furious franchise has some great cars and plenty of experienced drivers too. Even though not all the main characters have participated in a race, most of them have unique driving skills that would make them overcome any challenger easily.

Dominic Toretto even won a race by driving in reverse. And to make it even better, the engine of his car was on fire. With feats like this, it’s hard to think of any movie cars that would prove to be a challenge for Dom and family. But there are a couple that would stand chance. There are those that would be left in the dust too.

Beat: The Koenigsegg Agera In Need For Speed

It’s surprising that the 2014 Need For Speed movie didn’t end up being a good movie, considering how popular the game is. It also had race scenes that were not that impressive, including the ones involving the villainous Dino. He was driving a Koenigsegg Agera supercar.

In a heartbreaking moment, Dino realizes he won’t beat his competitor while driving this car in a race so he rams into the competitor’s car, causing him to have a fatal accident. Dom and his crew would have a field day against an opponent like Dino in his Koenigsegg Agera. He’ll probably end up rolling while trying to ram into one of them.

Lose: The Ford GT40 In Ford V Ferrari

In Ford v Ferrari, automotive engineer Caroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and racing expert Ken Miles (Christian Bale) were hired by Henry Ford II to build a racing car that would defeat Ferrari at the popular Le Mans competition. And they did just that by building the Ford GT40.

It was a vehicle that was way too good. The GT40 had a unique brake system that made it safer and easier for the pit crew to change rotors and pads. The engine was also perfected for longevity by running it through dynamometers (instruments used to test how long the engine can keep going before stopping). It would be impossible for Dominic Toretto and his crew to win a race against this perfect car, especially with phenomenal Ken Miles on the wheel.

Beat: Alpha Romeo Guilia In 6 Underground

This car doesn’t even make it past the first 30 minutes of the movie. How unfortunate. In one of the first scenes of the Michael Bay film, the billionaire known as One (Ryan Reynolds) is fleeing with his crew after killing the lawyer of a middle-Eastern general. A chase ensues in the streets of Florence, Italy.

Dom and family have been through these kinds of chases many times. But for One and his crew, it appears to be more challenging. The car is being driven by Six. Even though he’s a skilled driver, the car ends up in an accident that leaves him dead. The inability to come out of high-pressure situations like this in one piece means that this car won’t be much of a contest.

Lose: The 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback In Bullit

The San Francisco chase scene in Bullit isn’t considered one of the best ever for no reason. The 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback driven by the iconic actor moves at almost 150 mph. No wonder it was sold at an auction back in January for a whopping $3.4 million.

In the movie, McQueen plays Lieutenant Frank Bullitt. The badass lawman drives the Mustang while chasing two bad guys in a Dodge Charger. Bullit emerges victorious of course. The Charger is actually a popular car in the Fast & Furious franchise, having appeared in five films. You can place your bet on what its chances are against Bullit’s Mustang.

Beat: Chevrolet Lumina In Days Of Thunder

Maybe it was the era, but for a movie about racing, the cars looked really slow. Tom Cruise’s Chevrolet Lumina simply was the biggest culprit. Obviously the cars were moving quite slowly during filming, but they should have been made to appear faster uring editing.

While Cruise’s character Cole Trickle looks like a true NASCAR champion in this movie, he isn’t quite convincing as a driver. He even admits that his car is bad at one point, saying, “To win in Indy I’d need a great car, but stock cars are all the same.” Han from Fast & Furious would run circles around Cole (literally).

Lose: The Ferrari 312T2 In Rush

In the movie Rush, the two top racing drivers in the 70s face off against each other to determine who is the greatest. Nikki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) is the calm, disciplined racer while James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) is the bad boy who takes all the risks.

Hunt wins a battle but Lauda eventually wins the war. Lauda’s Ferrari 312T2 can also be considered safer because even though he crashes with it, he only gets burns as injuries and no major broken bones. And he manages to recover and compete again. The fact that he won three championships with this vehicle makes it hard to beat. Dom and his team would have to get something similar to stand a chance.

Beat: Modified Dodge Charger In Death Proof

In Death Proof, a psychopathic stuntman called Mike (Kurt Russel) enjoys using his car to ram into other vehicles. Since his car has been modified to withstand heavy impacts, he remains uninjured while causing death to the occupants of the other cars.

Cars with too many modifications tend to be heavy, hence Mike would have a speed disadvantage. Trying to ram Dom and family won’t work either since they are used to men like him, And the biggest hint that Mike’s Dodge Charger would lose is that in a tight race at the end of Death Proof, a group of friends in a Dodge Challenger managed to catch up with him and bump him off the road before beating him to death.

Lose: Lotus Espirit S1 In The Spy Who Loved Me

The Lotus Espirit S1 is so fast that Bond manages to successfully dodge three phases of attackers with it. First, Bond is chased by a man in a motorcycle with a missile-equipped sidecar on the curvy roads of the Bahamas. He manages to dodge a missile just in time and squeeze himself through two trucks.

Stromberg’s henchmen—including the popular Jaws—then follow him in a car. His quick maneuvers confuse them and force them to crash into a wooden house. Stromberg’s pilot Naomi then follows him while spraying bullets at his vehicle but she also fails to catch him. Outracing a motorcycle, a car, and a chopper in quick succession is a feat worthy of a standing ovation. This car would definitely outrace all of Dom’s men too.

 Beat: Ford Taurus In RoboCop

First, there’s the issue of RoboCop’s weight. This will have a major effect on speed. The Taurus is used in the first three RoboCop films and if it wasn’t for the equally bad cars of the villains, the super cop would have no chance. And against Toretto’s fast buddies, he’d look like a total loser.

If it wasn’t for behind-the-scenes inconveniences, RoboCop could have had a better ride. The steel cop was originally supposed to have a special Robo-Mobile with unique features like the Bat-mobile. One was actually made but the producers concluded that its appearance was too ridiculous. So they settled on the Tauras. Bad move. Or rather, slow move!

Lose: The Mini Cooper In The Italian Job

What? That’s such a small car! And it’s not even that fast. That’s absolutely right. But winning a race isn’t all about speed. As seen in The Italian Job, the Mini Cooper’s advantage is that it can literally go anywhere and do things that bigger cars cant do.

Narrow alleys? No problem. It’s so small that it can easily squeeze through. That makes it perfect for shortcuts. As Roman Pearce will be busy taking his Lamborghini Gallardo through the streets, the Mini Cooper will be driving through alleys, sidewalks and dashing down a couple of city stairs.
