Sebastian Stan confirms Falcon & Winter Soldier will begin filming this October. After eleven years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe largely focusing on the original six Avengers, the time has finally come to put a spotlight on different heroes. This will happen in the movies as new franchises become the focal point, but Marvel Studios is also set to utilize Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, to do highlight other underserved characters.

Marvel Studios is currently developing a handful of miniseries, with a Loki series starring Tom Hiddleston and WandaVision starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany (as Scarlet Witch and Vision respectively) being two of the confirmed shows. They also recently confirmed Falcon & Winter Soldier with Anthony Mackie and Stan both returning. The intrigue for the series has only risen after Avengers: Endgame’s ending where Captain America passed on the mantle and shield to Falcon, and has left fans itching to see what Falcon & Winter Soldier will be as a result.

It appears there will be still be a decent wait for the series, as star Sebastian Stan revealed at a recent convention appearance (via Comicbook) that Falcon & Winter Soldier won’t begin filming until October. This estimated start date comes just a month before Disney+ launches, so there is no way that it will be ready in time for launch. In fact, this likely means that the series will not appear on the streaming service until sometime in 2020.

As of right now, details on Falcon & Winter Soldier are slim. It is believed that the series will follow the events of Avengers: Endgame and show Falcon and Winter Soldier adjusting to life without Steve Rogers always by their sides. The older version of Steve could still potentially appear in a smaller capacity for the series, but the series will hopefully show Falcon learning to embrace his new mantle. Many fans have even hoped that the threat that Falcon and Winter Soldier take on is the Serpent Society to pay off an old trick from Marvel’s Phase 3 announcements.

Falcon & Winter Soldier is set to have Malcolm Spellman (Empire) serve as the writer and showrunner, and so far Mackie and Stan are the only cast members. With an October start, more announcements about the series are bound to happen later in the year. D23 in August is potentially a venue for Disney and Marvel Studios to reveal much more about not just Falcon & Winter Soldier, but all of the upcoming MCU shows. One announcement that many are waiting to see is if a title change is announced to reflect that Falcon is officially Captain America when the show begins. No matter what it is called, it looks like we’ll have to sit tight for more details on Falcon & Winter Soldier to surface.
