The Falcon and the Winter Soldier remains slated for a fall release this year on Disney+. As the MCU enters the new era of Phase 4 after Avengers: Endgame, they have much more than just a new slate of feature films planned. Marvel is taking full advantage of the Disney+ streaming service with a full lineup of TV shows that will connect to the upcoming movies. One of the most anticipated MCU series is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which unites Bucky Barnes and newly-minted Captain America Sam Wilson as they face off against Baron Zemo. It’s one of two Marvel shows that’ll premiere on Disney+ in 2020, along with WandaVision.

Recent industry trade reports suggested The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would premiere in August, earlier than the original fall release date announced during Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel last summer. Even though nobody from Disney confirmed the news, fans were excited by the proposition they’d be getting Falcon and the Winter Soldier sooner than expected. However, it appears Marvel is sticking to their initial plan and viewers need to wait until the fall.

Fresh on the heels of the Marvel/Disney+ Super Bowl spot that aired last night, Disney+ released official synopses for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, and Loki. The Falcon and Winter Soldier one makes no mention of August and instead maintains fall is when the show will debut. Read the synopsis in the space below:

It’d be reasonable to assume if Marvel had a specific month in mind for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s release, it’d be included in the synopsis as a way to further build hype for the show. Right now, the studio is only comfortable publicly disclosing a general timeframe of the fall season (September-November) and more information should be revealed in the coming months. Most likely, Disney is in the process of figuring out the rollout for their various original movies and series coming to Disney+ this year. That roster of content includes The Mandalorian season 2, which will be a huge draw. They key is ironing out the proper schedule so nothing gets overshadowed. Marvel obviously has a lot invested in their Disney+ series and wants them to be successful. Finding the best window for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is important and may take a little time.

Following the events of “Avengers: Endgame,” Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” The all-new series is directed by Kari Skogland; Malcolm Spellman is the head writer. Debuts on Disney+ this fall.

In the aftermath of The Mandalorian season 1 concluding, Disney+ has struggled to match the Star Wars show’s success, so the Mouse House is undoubtedly hoping The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a hit and gives people a reason to keep their accounts active. From the studio’s perspective, it’s easy to understand why they’d want the show to premiere in the summer, but until there’s an official comment on the matter, fans can expect The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in the fall. At this point, Marvel’s demonstrated time and time again they know what they’re doing, so Disney isn’t going to force them to change their plan. If Marvel feels fall is best for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, fall it will be.
