Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show to hit Disney Plus and it’s fair to say that fans are really excited about it. It’s sure to kick off a stellar series of shows of the next few years as Disney Plus continues to add content.
While this is of course an exciting opportunity for Marvel Studios, there’s also plenty to be nervous about. Here’s 5 things that we’re worried about in regards to the show and 5 things we couldn’t be more excited for!
NERVOUS: FLASHBACKS
Most superhero shows seem to have a flashback of some sort. In this instance, there’s every possibility that we take a look back at Bucky’s days as the Winter Soldier and Sam Wilson’s time of serving in the military forces as the Falcon.
Neither of these would actually serve the characters or story though. We are very familiar with the past of both of these characters and to keep on looking back could impede looking forward. Plus any flashbacks would only remind us of the old Captain America.
EXCITED: NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA
Speaking of Cap, we’re incredibly excited to welcome the new Captain America into the MCU. Sam was a fitting replacement for Steve and we can’t wait to see him as the star-spangled man. It’s going to be quite the shift for Falcon though.
He’s about to be thrust into the limelight more than ever before. We’re interested in seeing his journey to live up to this mantle and become part of the Captain America legacy. We also can’t wait to see him getting to grips with the shield for the first time.
NERVOUS: BUCKY’S JOURNEY
Bucky will also be going on a journey of his own but we’re a little more nervous about how this will play out. While the path for Falcon is clear, as he takes on the Captain America role, we’re not sure what will be happening with James Barnes.
Bucky has had a bit of an identity crisis recently, having portrayed both the Winter Soldier and the White Wolf. We know there’s a final position for Bucky to fill but we’re not too sure what that is. We hope his path is a clear one that continues him onto redemption.
EXCITED: ZEMO
The return of Zemo should have anyone excited, with his purple mask and full costume. Not only has he been one of the best villains we’ve seen in the MCU so far, but he was actually successful. His manipulation split up the team for quite some time.
Daniel Bruhl is a fantastic actor, so we know the character is in some very safe hands. We can’t wait for Zemo to be fully unleashed on the world as the maniacal terrorist we’ve always known him to be. He can continue to rank as one of the most interesting villains we’ve seen.
NERVOUS: INFIGHTING
We hoping that the banter between Falcon and Winter Soldier continues and that it doesn’t descend into a genuine rivalry. So far they have been on the same page but bickered slightly. What we don’t want to see is an outright fight and falling out between the two.
There’s sure to be tension over who Cap chose as his successor. We know Bucky accepted it at the time so we hope he continues to be supportive, rather than getting jealous of the mantle going to someone else; let’s hope they just continue as a unit.
EXCITED: COSTUMES
We’ve already mentioned that Falcon will be getting his own Captain America costume and Zemo will be returning in his full suit. We’re really excited to see what other costumes will come from this extremely talented design team.
With each passing appearance these famous characters are getting closer to their comic book counterparts. We’re hoping that Sharon Carter or Agent 13 gets her own full costume and that the USAgent’s getup is as much of a Cap ripoff as it should be.
NERVOUS: US-AGENT
Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely love this character and think that his inclusion into the MCU and this series in particular is a stroke of genius. With that being said, he has to be portrayed in a way that keeps him sympathetic and isn’t a straight-up villain.
USAgent is at his most interesting when he’s playing a political game and standing up for his beliefs. He can provide a different type of foil, becoming the government chosen Cap. Turning him into a villainous character would not work in the long run however.
EXCITED: FORGOTTEN MCU CHARACTERS
We’re mentioned both Sharon Carter and Zemo on this list thus far, which shows the level and variety of characters that will be brought back for this project. We’d love for Marvel Studios to do a deep dive of characters that have been forgotten about recently.
There’s plenty of espionage-related people who could fill out these roles quite well and we’re looking forward to seeing which cameos we might see. Plus this may be a way to bring back some of the forgotten Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from the show.
NERVOUS: PRESSURE
There’s a lot of pressure on this show to do well. Not only is there pressure on Falcon in particular to live up to the moniker as Captain America, but there’s also pressure on the series to completely knock it out of the park.
This will be the first show in this format, which means it will set the standard for the other shows that will follow on. If this comes out and does poorly it could put the other Disney Plus series in jeopardy, or at least send the teams back to the drawing board.
EXCITED: ACTION
These two characters have provided some of the best action set pieces from across the MCU. Their style is gritty with a lot of highly developed hand to hand combat and a team of stunt coordinators that keep on increasing the stakes.
We can’t wait to see what kind of action will take place in the series, where more focus can be put on the sequences themselves. Not only this, with new equipment available to Falcon and Bucky, we want to see how the shield and other weapons come into play.
