Dolby is partnering with Disney to launch a Star Wars interactive installation that allows fans to experience all corners of the Skywalker saga. After 42 years and nine films, the iconic saga that’s defined the franchise to this point is coming to an end via J.J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker. Set for premiere later this month, Star Wars 9 is poised to be the moviegoing event of the holiday season, and people are celebrating the entirety of the series and reflecting on what Star Wars means to them.

Of course, it’s a given viewers will set time aside to rewatch the previous eight episodes in preparation for The Rise of Skywalker, but some will be looking for other ways to commemorate the film’s arrival. Luckily for those fans, Dolby has put together something very special that sounds like it’ll be a treat to explore.

In a press release, Dolby announced they’re working with Disney on a “limited-time installation” at Dolby SoHo in New York. It features “interactive exhibits” and props from the films. The installation will be open from December 6 - January 5 during Dolby SoHo’s normal hours (Wednesday-Sunday, 1 pm - 8 pm). Dolby’s content and creative relations director Stuart Bowling expressed excitement over the installation:

Part of why Star Wars has endured for more than 40 years is how immersive the films are. The visuals and sound design are obviously vital to that, drawing audiences into a galaxy far, far away. Dating back to A New Hope in 1977, Star Wars filmmakers have utilized Dolby technologies to great effect, so it’s nice to see Dolby and Disney unite to put this installation together, bringing their decades-long collaboration full circle. It sounds like attendees will have plenty to check out, as there will be a total of 11 exhibits covering memorable moments from the films. As any Star Wars fan knows, the saga has no shortage of iconic scenes, so people will want to be sure to see what Dolby has to offer. Multiple visits might be required to get the full experience, and luckily the installation is free.

“The Force brought us together – and we are thrilled to open the doors of Dolby SoHo so Star Wars fans can experience their favorite franchise like never before. It’s been an honor to have partnered with Star Wars from the beginning through Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We can’t wait to immerse fans in a galaxy far, far away with immersive Dolby experiences at Dolby SoHo.”

Star Wars is going to continue beyond The Rise of Skywalker, with a trio of untitled films scheduled for release in December 2022, 2024, and 2026. Additionally, Lucasfilm is working on multiple TV shows for Disney+ that will keep fans occupied over the next few years. But much like Avengers: Endgame, The Rise of Skywalker marks the end of an era for Lucasfilm, definitively closing the book on an epic saga that’s captivated generations. For that reason, it’s appropriate Dolby is doing something to honor the Star Wars legacy, giving fans an experience they surely won’t forget.
