While The Expanse has proven to be incredibly popular with Sci-Fi fans, Game of Thrones proved to be one of HBO’s most popular series; that is until the final season was released. Game of Thrones fans had to wait over a year and a half to get season 8, but it ended up being extremely disappointing to a lot of people. Despite the episodes in season 8 being longer than previous seasons, the eighth suffered from cramming too many storylines into just six episodes. Many were also upset over the way the series finale played out and the fates of the main characters. Seeing how disappointed fans were, The Expanse showrunner claims that the ending for his show will be better than Game of Thrones and even Star Wars.
After responding to a fan who noted how the endings of Star Wars and Game of Thrones couldn’t please everyone, Daniel Abraham simply responded, “Challenge accepted.” In other comments, Abraham mentioned that he and the other people working on the show have known how the series will end for over a decade, reassuring fans that the producers have been heavily involved in development and production. Abraham’s tweet can be read in full below:
While David Benioff and D.B Weiss disappointed fans with the end of Game of Thrones it has yet to be seen how the final movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy will go over with fans. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker starts it’s wide release tomorrow and will not only be the final film in the sequel trilogy, but also the final film in the Skywalker saga. Early reactions for The Rise of Skywalker say the film is a conclusion of epic proportions but suffers from cramming too much into a 2 hour and 21 minute run time. It’s also worth mentioning that The Rise of Skywalker currently sits with a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing this article, which is significantly lower than both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
It’s possible that The Expanse will have a more satisfying ending than Star Wars and Game of Thrones, but to be fair, The Expanse isn’t nearly as popular as the previously mentioned titles. Regardless of the size of the fan base, it is hard to craft an ending to a popular TV series or movie franchise that everyone will enjoy. J.J. Abrams has even said that he knows he can’t please everybody with the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. It’s unknown whether season 5 of The Expanse will be the end of the series or not, but fans can expect an epic conclusion to the series when the show does end if Abraham holds true to his word.
