From the moment its premise was first announced, Second Coming wore its satire on its sleeve, sending the Son of God back down to Earth to learn how to be a real savior from the world’s top superhero… and also discover how much humanity had transformed his teachings. But it was also no surprise when Second Coming switched publishers to AHOY! Comics, who were openly unafraid of the ‘controversy’ the series might court.

Writer Mark Russell, having delivered head-turning narratives with both Flintstones and The Snagglepuss Chronicles (among others), has delivered a story that is predictably clever, earnest, and thoughtful. But if there was any doubt that Second Coming would continue to pull no punches in its penultimate installment, our exclusive preview of Second Coming #5 finally gives Satan a chance to tell God HIS side of their story, and try to convince his creator that it wasn’t really him to blame for the whole “corrupting mankind against God” thing. Something tells us this argument isn’t going to do much convincing.

The previous issue of the series found Jesus tossed into jail – setting off alarms in Heaven, considering how that story played out for him last time. While Jesus was bailed out by Sunstar and his friends, it was clearly enough cause for concern with God. Because he has finally descended to walk the Earth in unremarkable human form to converse with Satan. The former Morningstar has been pitching his mission to protect Jesus with Angels, hoping it might win him a return into Heaven. But now that he’s getting the opportunity to apply his sales pitch to the big man himself, fans can see how convincing (or not) Satan’s case turns out to be.

The official preview pages can be found below, with the full issue arriving in your local comic book shop on Wednesday, November 27th:
