Pop culture phenomenon Poppy is back with a new graphic novel titled Damnation: Poppy’s Inferno. The new book will follow up her 2019 debut Genesis 1. The new release will put Poppy in a story where people seek to control her for their own purposes leading her to the depths of Hell.
Poppy’s unique take on Internet culture has made her one of the more intriguing performers in modern times. With more than 2.5 million YouTube subscribers and 475 million total views, Poppy’s mix of music, satire, and one-of-a-kind persona has made her one of the most interesting artists on the platform. Poppy has released three full-length albums and dropped her debut graphic novel Genesis 1 in 2019. Her work can be described as subversive and genre-less with a focus on progression.
Damnation: Poppy’s Inferno will see poppy team up again with Ryan Cady (Infinite Dark) as well as artists Amilcar Pinna (Forgotten Queen) and Zoe Thorogood (Crowded). The story is described as thought-provoking horror with a satirical twist. Here’s a description of the new title.
Z2 publisher Josh Frankel said the company is delighted to work with Poppy again and called her 2019 debut “one of the best books we published not only in 2019 but in our time as a publisher.” He said Poppy’s newest project is “shaping up to be all that and more.” Z2 has worked with music artists on a number of graphic novels and comics, including Yungblud, Dan Auerbach, and upcoming books from The Grateful Dead and Sturgill Simpson.
You might think you know Poppy, but what if you were only just scratching the surface? What if you could learn more about Poppy at the same time that she learns about herself? Following the story of Poppy’s Inferno, In between two worlds, both of which work to traumatize the unsuspecting into traumatizing others, Poppy finds herself in both literal and figurative Hellscapes, She must walk the thin line between doing what she must to gain her freedom and staying true to her own identity and beliefs. In Poppy’s Inferno our hero must fight against all that try to change her, not allowing anyone to determine how she thinks, feels or hurts, all the while trying to outwit the demons that surround her every step of the way.
Damnation: Poppy’s Inferno will feature both a standard and limited deluxe version which can be preordered on the Z2 website. The deluxe edition comes with a ‘Music to Scream To’ soundtrack. The graphic novel comes following the release of Poppy’s brand new album I Disagree and the launch of a 37 date tour.
