An exclusive clip from season 3 of HarmonQuest sees Dan Harmon’s Fondue trapped in a sword as the rest of his group reminisce about past adventures and stacking ladders in the wake of divorce. The irreverent mix of animation, live comedy, and role-playing campaigns returns to VRV for another 10-episode round of improvised laughs and a revolving door of special guest stars that includes D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place), Kate Miccuci (Garfunkel and Oates), Reggie Watts (The Late Show With James Corden), and more.

The third season picks up in the aftermath of the season 2 finale, with the world in ruins and Fondue dead. While that’s usually the sort of thing that sends fans into a tizzy and makes it exponentially harder to tell the story, it’s just another day at the office (or, well, the table) for the gang at HarmonQuest. In fact, the death of Fondue makes for an interesting twist as the character still gets to interact with his fellow role-players, albeit from inside a sword.

As the exclusive season 3 clip makes clear, death and the apocalypse are but a small speed bump in the world inhabited by Harmon and his guests. In fact, most of the clip is spent recalling past adventures, which gives Harmon, Erin McGathy, Jeff B. Davis, and game master Spencer Crittenden a chance to improvise some very funny lines. Take a look a the clip from HarmonQuest season 3, episode 1 and read a synopsis of what fans can expect from the new season below:

With fans eagerly anticipating the return of Harmon and Justin Roiland’s animated series Rick and Morty, the continuing adventures of HarmonQuest might help make the wait a little easier. Though the humor is a bit different, it still tends to connect the banalities of everyday life with the more fantastical aspects of — in this case — fantasy roleplaying. If nothing else, it’ll be good for a laugh next time you think about picking up the 12-sided die.

“The world has been destroyed by the demon helling! To make things worse, Fondue (Dan Harmon) is dead, and his spirit is trapped inside a sword. It’s now up to Buer (Erin McGathy), Boneweevil (Jeff B. Davis), and a mysterious newcomer to find a way to undo the damage done and repair the mistakes that led to the end of the world (and were like, definitely their fault). Seeking the “Beast of Beginning” to reset their past, our heroes traverse time and space to set the world right, but run into increasingly dangerous complications caused by trying to alter the fabric of reality itself.”
